IAR Indonesia
Established in 2008, IAR Indonesia is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and preservation of Indonesia’s wildlife. Set in the rainforest of Ciapus, near Bogor in West Java, it is the world’s largest rescue centre for slow lorises, and the only one in Indonesia specialising in their rehabilitation and release. To fight the illegal wildlife trade that threatens these endangered primates, IAR Indonesia also conducts outreach and awareness programmes to increase knowledge within local communities.
Save Vietnam’s Wildlife
Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is a non-profit organisation based in Cuc Phuong National Park in Vietnam. It was founded in 2014 with the mission to save animals from illegal trade, protect wildlife strongholds and continue to monitor released individual and wildlife populations. Part of its conservation efforts involves advocacy work and education outreach to communities and schools.
Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC)
Established in 2008 by wildlife biologist Dr Wong Siew Te, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is the world’s only conservation and research centre solely dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the Malayan sun bear. A sanctuary for bears to recuperate and relearn natural behaviour for release back into the wild, the centre also aims to spread public awareness through ecotourism and education.
Refugee Learning Center
Refugee Learning Center is a school set up by refugees, for refugees. Based in Puncak, Indonesia, the school is run by refugee volunteers, and offers basic education classes for children and youth, and skills classes for adults. From just 35 students at its inception, it now has over 300 refugee students as of January 2020.
SDI Academy
SDI Academy is a social enterprise that champions migrant worker rights and welfare through access to education, livelihood classes, and activities to encourage social inclusion. By empowering them with language, vocational and entrepreneurship skills, SDI aims to improve their employment prospects, and equip them with the knowledge and tools to start their own ventures when they return home. Present in four countries, its outreach efforts also include foreign domestic workers and refugees.
